"They said she passed — but something in me knew. Three weeks later, her ABR confirmed mild-to-moderate loss in her right ear. We caught it before she missed a single word."

Rachel Okonkwo

Mother of Amara, now 2 — referred by NICU follow-up team

Newborn & Infant Diagnostic Testing

Failed or inconclusive newborn screening results require follow-up within the first three months of life. Our audiologists specialize in infant-specific protocols that deliver reliable results even on the most unsettled newborns.

Automated ABR (Auditory Brainstem Response)

Measures how the auditory nerve and brainstem respond to sound. No behavioral response required — safe and accurate for sleeping infants.

OAE (Otoacoustic Emissions)

Tests the function of the outer hair cells in the cochlea. Takes 5–10 minutes and provides immediate results.

Tympanometry

Checks middle ear pressure and eardrum mobility — identifies fluid behind the eardrum common in infants.

"His pediatrician said he was just a 'late talker.' Our ENT sent us here at 18 months. The ABR under sedation showed bilateral moderate loss. He got hearing aids at 20 months. His first word was 'dada' at 22."

James Reyes

Father of Lucas — referred by pediatric ENT

Toddler Audiometry & Sedated ABR Testing

Toddlers present the most diagnostic complexity — too old for newborn protocols, too young for reliable behavioral responses. Our pediatric team uses age-adapted techniques and coordinates with your ENT for sedated testing when needed.

Visual Reinforcement Audiometry (VRA)

Uses visual rewards to condition infants 6 months–2.5 years to turn toward sounds, mapping hearing thresholds across frequencies.

Conditioned Play Audiometry (CPA)

Teaches toddlers 2–5 years to respond to tones through a game — placing blocks, dropping toys. Accurate and genuinely fun.

Diagnostic ABR Under Sedation

For children who cannot complete behavioral testing, we coordinate sedated ABR with your ENT and anesthesia team for comprehensive threshold data.

"Her teacher sent home a note saying she was 'distracted and inattentive.' I almost signed her up for an ADHD evaluation. Then the school nurse screened her and found a 30dB loss in both ears that nobody had ever caught."

Diane Kowalski

Mother of Sophie, age 8 — referred by school nurse

School-Age Hearing & Processing Evaluation

Undetected hearing loss in school-age children is frequently mistaken for attention or behavioral issues. A comprehensive evaluation takes under an hour and provides the clarity families and educators need.

Pure-Tone Audiometry

Standard hearing test across the full speech frequency range (250Hz–8kHz), establishing precise thresholds for each ear.

Speech Recognition Testing

Measures how accurately a child can repeat words at conversational volume — critical for classroom performance assessment.

Auditory Processing Screening

Identifies children who hear but struggle to process speech in background noise — a common hidden barrier in classroom learning.

"The moment they turned on Mia's cochlear implant, she went completely still. Then her eyes went wide. She looked at me and said 'Mama' — and she was three years old and had never heard her own voice clearly before that second."

Priya Mehta

Mother of Mia, age 4 — cochlear implant recipient
